The writer of Proverbs says, “Get wisdom, get understanding”. There is nothing worth more than the wisdom and knowledge. Gold and silver cannot compare to the wealth that comes from Scripture.

Jack Countryman is back and helping you find the wisdom and promises within the pages of Scripture. With verses chosen to speak to you in your particular moment of need, you will find that God’s word has plenty to say to you.

Whether you are experiencing disappointment in your life, about to change jobs, or trying to understand the role of the Holy Spirit in your life, God’s Wisdom and Promises has the words of truth that you need to hear.

Guidance, encouragement, and the hope to take you from today into tomorrow are all found within the Wisdom and Promises of God. Jack Countryman is here to help you find them in this latest book, God’s Wisdom and Promises.

I had two thoughts when I cracked the spine on this hardcover book and peered into the pages of God’s Wisdom and Promises.

  1. This is just a book of Scripture.
  2. This is NOT just a book of Scripture.

It is true that the latest book from Jack Countryman is a collection of passages of the Bible. Page after page is covered with verses, some familiar, others more obscure, but Scripture none the less.

I was initially disappointed. Why would I want a book that just copied and pasted Scripture? Why wouldn’t I just read the Bible instead?

I don’t think that God’s Wisdom and Promises is attempting to replace Scripture. Rather, it serves as an aid to get into Scripture. The more I looked at this book, the more helpful I realized it was, the more I saw the need for it.

When I am feeling low or discouraged, I know that Scripture has the words of life that I need to hear, to be reminded of, but which ones? Unless I’ve memorized a lot more Scripture, I am going to be stuck flipping through pages, hoping that something jumps out at me. Chances are that won’t happen, and I’ll stay discouraged.

Jack Countryman has pulled out some of the best verses from the Bible for numerous situations, verses to encourage, to uplift, to instruct, and to remind. So when your discouraged or faced with a difficult life circumstance, like wondering if you should move or not, there are a handful of verses to read and receive life from.

These are not all the verse about each topic, but they are a great start. I found that I wanted to read Isaiah more and more after finding verses that spoke to me based on different circumstances. And I think that is the point of God’s Wisdom and Promises.

This book is a springboard to get you into the Bible. It is great as a helpful tool, but hardly a replacement for the real thing. It is an aid in a crunch, a quick reminder until you get the Scriptures.

There are times I wished this book was larger or covered more topics or life issues, like including Doubt in the category on God’s Promises For When You Feel…But I do understand that space could be limited, and there are times that what one might be looking for included in a different category, under a different heading. Doubt could be addressed under Building Your Faith in God’s Promises That He Will Help You Serve Him By…

God’s Wisdom and Promises is a book of Scripture. There is no getting away from that. But it is more than Scripture merely cut and pasted. It is categorized into groups and categories to help you easily and quickly find the life-giving Word that you need in your life circumstance. Well bound, and beautifully styled, this book will serve you well in your walk with Christ, and look good on your shelf at the same time.

I give Jack Countryman’s God’s Wisdom and Promises a 4 out of 5 stars.
