It is important to teach kids the importance of thankfulness and grandfathers. The attitude of being grateful for what you have been given is sorely lacking in our modern world, and will only be remedied if the coming generation learns it early. And the disrespect and mistreatment of the older generation has reached a fever pitch. The wisdom and blessings that grandparents, especially grandfathers, offer is something that should never be neglected. And, to do that is to teach children early on how valuable grandfathers are.
So, why not do both, in a large size, brightly illustrated book?
Thank You, God, for Grandpa is a cute, teaching opportunity for you to read to your little ones, or have them read to you. From award-winning author Amy Parker, and illustrated by Rosalinda Kightley comes a heartfelt children’s book that will help your kids learn an attitude of thanksgiving and a deep appreciation for grandfathers.
This book hits all the hallmarks of a great grandfather, like telling stories to the grandkids, playing games, and helping kids build things, this Tommy Nelson published book is a perfect addition to your children’s growing library. Full of cute moments that reflect the kind of relationship every parent wants for their children and grandparents, Thank You, God, for Grandpa is sure to be a favourite for your kids.
My review for Thank You, God, for Grandpa is very similar to my review of its other half, Thank You, God, for Grandma. The reason being, they are very similar books. Both are wonderfully illustrated. Both are well written. But there are some notable differences that I am a fan of.
While I “critiqued” the Grandma counterpart for not having as many references to God in this thanksgiving prayer book, Thank You, God, for Grandpa has more. Not a lot more, I wasn’t wanting it to appear every page. But it is a couple times more, and settles that desire to see God in my children’s books.
Also, a cleverly placed Scripture reference made me smile. On a page where Grandpa “tells us about Jesus and shows us how to pray”, a chalkboard hangs in the background displaying Joshua 24:15. For those that are in the know, this is a fitting and powerful verse, adding that little bit of extra space for more God moments and Bible teaching.
This is a wonderfully colour and fun way to introduce kids to being thankful, especially for the grandfathers in their lives. Mary Parker’s simple words matched with Rosalinda Kightley’s art makes Thank You, God, for Grandpa a book every growing child should have. And if you can get this one, and Thank You, God, for Grandma, do it. Complete the set.
I give Thank You, God, for Grandpa a 5 out of 5 star rating.
